My Reflection: The religious teachers of the law wanted to convict Jesus so badly that they were willing to have someone falsely testify against Jesus. They gave up their values and laws that they grew up with to satisfy their own prideful desires. What about the commandment about falsely testifying against your neighbor? They decided to pick and choose what commandments they would obey so that their pride would win. It wasn't about doing what was right. Their hearts were so far away from God. Yet, Jesus died for them too. "Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing." Luke 23:24 How horrible would you feel if you were one of the ones convicting Jesus and then came to realize that he was the son of God. Imagine the guilt that that would overwhelm you. But even when people do undeserving things, they receive underserving love and forgiveness. We do not deserve anything that Jesus has done for us. We have committed underserving acts, but he still decided to die for us ALL. No one is left out of that equation. "He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world."
